E.K. Sloane Piano Grants
Application deadline: May 1
The E.K. Sloane Fund of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation provides grants for nonprofits to purchase or repair pianos. The fund was established by Norfolk native Edwin K. Sloane after his death in 1997. He was an engineer and philanthropist who bestowed numerous pianos upon arts organizations and colleges during his lifetime.
The Sloane Fund’s primary intent is to provide superior quality pianos for concerts by established, professional, cultural organizations or educational institutions whose primary purpose is to train professional musicians. Organizations applying for grants should seek to inspire a passion for classical music among a broad segment of the public through public performances or the education of young people.
Educational, social welfare and religious organizations can apply for more modest pianos for other public performance or professional needs. If funding is available, grants are also made for upright piano and keyboard instruments for instructional purposes or to non-professional performance groups.
Although organizations and institutions outside Virginia are eligible to apply for grants, preference is given to organizations and institutions serving Hampton Roads. Click here for a list of past Sloane Fund grant recipients.
The application deadline is May 1. Grants will be awarded in June. For questions contact Vivian Oden, program and donor services administrator, at voden@hamptonroadscf.org.
