Apply for a Grant
2012 Grant Guidelines
Thanks to our generous donors, we have two main ways nonprofit organizations working in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia can apply for grants.
- Community Grant Program (New 2012 grant guidelines)
Coming up is the April 20 deadline for grants in two areas -- arts and culture and education.
In 2012 we will distribute about $2 million (15% of our grants) through our Community Grant Program. We welcome applications from nonprofit organizations and coalitions working to improve the quality of life in our region. We fund in five main program areas:
- arts and culture
- education
- environment
- health and human services
- nonprofit facilities improvement
Community Grants are awarded in two major categories -- for Nonprofit Facilities Improvement for capital campaigns and major improvements, and for Seed and Program Funding in arts and culture, education, environment and health and human services..
- Special Interest Grants (New 2012 grant guidelines)
Some of our donors have unique community interests that do not fall within the Community Grant Program guidelines. Roughly 5% of our grant dollars are distributed through special interest grants that welcome applications in areas ranging from pianos to horticultural education and youth baseball. Please read this section to see if your organization is working in the focus areas being addressed. October 15 is the deadline to apply for the Special Interest Grants.
The remainder of our grants are distributed as grants designated by the donor to organizations they name or through recommendations of donor advisors. The four donor advised funds that accept applications are listed in Special Interest Grants. Please read this section to see if your organization is working in the focus areas being addressed. Each has its own application deadline.
